HOBBY STOCK RULES
Car Specifications
1) Any American made rear wheel drive car. Any full size half-ton truck, manufactured by Ford, General Motors, or Chrysler. No vans, 4WD’s or sport utilities.
2) Wheel base minimum shall be 107.5 inches.
3) Car and/or truck bodies must be completely
OEM steel. Plastic nose caps or valances permitted.
Safety
1) The roll cage shall be constructed using 1.75 inch outside diameter
steel tubing or greater with a minimum wall thickness .095 inches. No tubing
on the car can be greater than 2 inches in diameter. Six point cage consisting
of four-point center section and “kicker bars”. Center section of
cage must consist of main hoop with “X” bracing and halo that clears the driver’s head when he/she is strapped
in with his/her helmet on. The four points of the cage center section must be
securely welded to the car’s frame rails or mounted on 6X6 inch steel pads ¼ inch minimum thickness completely welded
to unibodies. No cross bracing, weight jacking, or any other sort
of reinforcement to the kickers allowed. Windshield bar required. Driver side door must be plated with minimum 18 gauge steel or 3/16 inch aluminum from down bar to down
bar.
2) Front cage hoop permitted. Inner fender
wells may be removed.
3) Aluminum seat designed for oval track racing is required. Seat must be securely mounted to the roll cage.
4) A minimum of three driver’s side door bars are required. Passenger side “Z” bracing required-minimum. Driver and passenger doors may be gutted as necessary to fit the cage.
Doors must be welded shut.
5) All glass and trim must be removed. No additional gutting or removal of sheet metal is allowed.
6) Five (5) point type harness required with three (3) inch waist
and shoulder straps.
7) Battery must be securely mounted in a box within the driver’s compartment, marine type or better.
1) Driver’s window net is required. Securely mounted screen and/or three (3) vertical bars required in front of driver.
2) Fuel cell is mandatory. Must be located in trunk are and mounted securely. Pickup
trucks must use a metal enclosed fuel cell mounted securely in the bed area between the frame rails. Metal enclosed fuel cells must use no greater that ten (10) gauge steel bar/material. No more than three (3) foot of rubber hose on fuel system may be hooked to stock fuel line.
Drive-train Specifications
1) Engine and related components must remain
stock as manufactured. No angle plug heads on GM engines. No vortex heads. Blocks, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds
must be OEM cast iron. No rollerized valve train components. No grinding, polishing, or porting of any kind to the intake exhaust runners or manifolds. No bow tie blocks
or heads.
2) No stroker motors.
3) No roller cams, flat tappet cams only.
4) Radiators must be mounted in stock position. Stock mechanical fuel pumps and stock power steering systems are required.
5) Engine must be mounted in stock position.
6) OEM and factory transmissions allowed. Working stock torque converter with fluid required.
Stock clutch allowed. Must have a minimum ¼ inch flat strap or some sort
of protective shield on the bell housing.
7) Spec carburetor Unmodified Holley
4412’s only, not exceed 500 cfm, with restrictor plate with RFR/RSR number which will be registered to driver. Tampering with this part will carry penalties and fines.
a) No after market metering blocks.
b) Changing of squirters, jets and power valves is OK.
c) Removal of choke plate OK. Must leave choke horn.
d) All 4412’s are subject to passing a no-go gauge.
e) One (1) adapter no more than one (1) inch in height. No tampering allowed.
f) All cars are subject to inspection at anytime
and may require the removal of some components.
8) Gasoline/110 race fuel OK, no methanol. No
electric fuel pumps.
9) Engine is subject to inspection at any time,
which may include removal and inspection of the following: Carburetor, valve covers, intake, and exhaust manifolds.
10) Electric cooling fans are permitted.
11) Radiator spray bar, pump and reservoir are permitted. Maximum reservoir capacity is five (5) gallons. System must be operational.
Reservoir and system components must be securely mounted. Reservoir can
only be mounted in the driver’s compartment.
12) Stock bumpers are required to be chained securely to the frame.
13) Rear end differentials must be open.
No limited slip, welded gears, or mini spools, or otherwise locked rear end gears using any method including shimming
and emergency brakes. Nine inch ford allowed.
Frame,
Suspension, Wheels and Tires
1) Uni-body car may create frame to tie front
and rear suspension. Shocks must mount in stock location using stock mounts.
2) Suspension mounting points, trailing arms,
control arms and sway bars must remain stock factory unmodified. No weight jacking
devices, spring spacers, adjustable spring shackls,sliders are lowering blocks or wheel spacers. Suspension components must match year, make and model of the car.
3) Steel wheels only, eight (8) inch maximum
width. One bead lock allowed on right rear only. DOT P rated radial tires only. No recaps, heavy lug, mud terrain or studded snow tires. Tires must not be any wider that 255 mm with an aspect ratio no larger than 60. (example: 255/60R15 is
ok, 255/50R15 IS NOT LEGAL)
4) No additional weight or ballast of any kind
may be added anywhere on the car.
5) Brakes must function on all four wheels. No adjustable brake proportioning valves of any kind or shut off devices. Emergency brake cable must be cut or removed.
6) All brake components including pedal, master
cylinder, calipers, rotors, spindles, drums and related subcomponents must be stock or OEM replacement.
7) Steering system must be stock or OEM replacement
for make and model used.
Tech
Inspection
1) Any top finisher who leaves the track and
returns to his/her pit without undergoing inspection (and without track official approval) will be disqualified and lose all
points for the evening.
2) At a minimum, the top four (4) finishers
will be subject to inspection of the following components:
a) Single drive rear ends, Hobby Stock will be jacked up
to ensure and open differential.
b) The engine will be checked for any significant vacuum
leak that could constitute cheating.
c) Ballast: Visual inspection in, around and under cars
for any added weight.
3) If LARA tech inspectors discover any violation
by any driver, the offending competitor will be immediately disqualified for that event.
If a disqualification occurs for any of the above reasons, they will lose any and all points for that evening.
